FUTURE MOBILITY

Hyperloop

The European Hyperloop is coming

The need for new infrastructure outside road transport is pressing. Existing transport modalities require 51T euro of investments, emit 30% of all emissions and are designed for low speed. Economic growth requires anticipatory transport solutions. The new form of transport must be sustainable in all aspects.

Denys believes that the future of this mode of transport is below the surface, reserving the public open space for the people to enjoy, or travelling in low-speed vehicles. We are helping to build one of these new modes of transportation, the Hyperloop. With our long experience in tunnelling we are helping this becoming a reality.

The hyperloop Development Program is Europe’s daring project to develop a network of autonomous vehicles travelling through near-vacuum tubes. In these tubes, vehicles are suspended, propelled, and guided magnetically along upper rails. Contactless suspension in a near-vacuum means the system is 90% more energy-efficient than aviation and travels equally fast.

Hyperloop is not a dream, it’s becoming reality and taking shape in the Netherlands where the system was invented. In Groningen we built a 420-metre aboveground demonstration tube which includes a central switch arrangement to test the ability to change direction. The tube is made of steel much like a pipeline, but with much tighter tolerances because the vehicles are designed to travel at speeds up to 400 km/h.

To a more sustainable future for us all!
